Acupuncture is a safe and effective healing art, backed by more than two thousand years of practice and research. It is used worldwide both as a primary and adjunct treatment for a wide range of conditions.

Acupuncture is done in the practice following the ancient Chinese protocols, or by using a laser designed specifically for acupuncture treatments. Both the traditional needling as well as the laser can give excellent results for a wide range of different conditions. The advantage of the laser acupuncture is that it involves no needles, no discomfort and is much faster to perform.

What will I feel?
With laser acupuncture there is no sensation or any discomfort. The sensation you will feel when being needled is generally fairly minimal. In some styles you will feel almost nothing, while in others, the needle will be rotated slightly, and you may experience a heavy or distended feeling.

How long does a treatment session take?
Laser Acupuncture is much quicker than the needling, but can’t be used for all medical conditions. After the diagnosis is made, it will be possible to determine the most appropriate type of treatment - needling or laser. A therapeutic effect is achieved by treating the acupuncture point for 20 seconds with laser, then moving on to the next acupuncture point. Acupuncture needles may remain in the same acupuncture point for up to 45 minutes, depending on the condition treated. Most people feel fairly relaxed during this period and many simply fall asleep.

In many cases your treatment with needles may consist of points on the front and back of your body, so the practitioner may insert needles on the front, let you rest for a while and then remove them, then have you turn over, and continue the treatment on your back.

Prognosis and Treatment Plans
A definitive prognosis is always difficult to formulate before treatment is started. After 2-3 treatments, judging how many treatments may be required is much easier. While many people will feel some change in their condition immediately, or within the first 2-3 treatments, others with more serious conditions will need more treatments before a significant change occurs. If you do not notice any changes, it does not mean that acupuncture is not helping you. Many times the changes are slow and somewhat subtle, as the entire body begins to re-balance from the condition. During these initial stages, the relative effectiveness of the treatments may be assesed by monitoring subtle changes in the tongue and/or pulse.

Acupuncture may be suggested as a single mode of treatment. More often it becomes part of a more holistic approach, that also incorporates lifestyle and dietary changes, to help you re-balance your body, mind and spirit.
